Essential Listening: House and Techno

All That You Need - Gorgon City feat. Caroline Byrne

Coming through with a sound much housier than usual, Gorgon City had got plenty of music fans giddy with their new release ‘All That You Need’.

Sounding fantastic partially thanks to a massive bassline and clean production, this track is marching towards classics territory with a big, memorable piano riff and a euphoric drop.

We reckon this is the kind of track that kids in the future will point to when saying they were born in the wrong generation.

Essential Listening: Indie and Alternative

Merry Old England - The Libertines

Taken from their fourth album All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade, and the band’s first since 2015’s Anthems for Doomed Youth, ‘Merry Old England’ covers the journeys many refugees have taken and will take to get to England, no matter what it takes.

With a dramatic string section and pirate-inspired guitars (that’ll probably make more sense when you hear it), the band have kept hold of a sound they’re known for while growing and expanding on it for a more matured sound.

Ere Me Now - Benny L and Darrison

Jungle and dark drum and bass producer Benny L dropped ‘Ere Me Now’ with the B-side ‘The Bravest’ on the 5th, both featuring Darrison and both being brilliant.

‘Ere Me Now’, embellished with various echoed and reverbed sounds including Darrison’s voice, sounds a fair bit like it’d suit a chase scene in a dark 90s movie like The Matrix.

The percussion is crisp, the bassline simple but perfect, and the overall atmosphere intriguing.

86Sentra - NxWorries

NxWorries, or Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge, have finally released their next track after we heard ‘Where I Go’ and ‘Daydreaming’, which they dropped in October 2022 and May 2023. Yeah, it’s been a bit of a wait.

The new track is short but sweet and gives us a glimpse of the new album titled Why Lawd? which will be with us in June. Set to feature some incredible names including Snoop Dogg, Earl Sweatshirt, Thundercat, and more, we’ll be counting down the days until this one.
