Australia's proficiency in churning out the finest, most exhilarating psych rock bands is no longer much of a secret - we're spoiled when it comes to mind-melting collectives from down under: Tame Impala, Pond, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, The MurlocsBabe Rainbow and now here's another, the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets.

Like King Gizzard they've got a most excellent name, and like all of the above have found a way of combining thundering riffs, off-kilter rhythms and lucid vocal ramblings to create retro-tinged psyche soundscapes that have so far led to three full length studio releases: High Visceral, Pt. 1 (2016), High Visceral, Pt. 2 (2017), and 2019's And Now for the Whatchamacallit.

And their latest work is some of their finest yet, with the band's Jack McEwan explaining its creation in a particularly enticing way:

“The original concept was to take a 1930’s carnival that had been re-imagined for future generations, a collage of Punch and Judy, Carousels and coconut shy’s that progresses in musical concepts and travels with the listener. Then as we started traveling I was swept off into my own kind of circus, the odyssey of touring life. Large nights out, larger characters, drunken recollections of foreign cities and rabbit hole-ing into insanity.”

It comes as little surprise that, as a live experience, the Perth rockers have created a psychedelic tour de force. Expect blood, sweat and hair - lots and lots of hair. Before heading to your nearest sweatbox to witness the band doing what they do best, check out our Spotify playlist above to get yourself well acquainted.
