The nights are darker, it’s a little chillier, and the littluns are going into a frenzy. It’s nearly Christmas!
As they hunt their dream gift and make sure they do nothing to jeopardise their inclusion on the Nice List, we're sure you'll agree it’s one of the best things about being a kid. And one thing that can really tie it all together? A visit to Santa in his grotto.
Manchester’s Santa grottos cover everything from train rides to all-in parties, traditional grottos to action-packed adventures. Let’s have a look at some of the best Santa’s grottos in Manchester this year.
The Grotto Trafford Centre
When: multiple dates from Saturday 22nd November - Wednesday 24th December 2025
Where: outside The Great Hall at Trafford Centre in Manchester
The Trafford Centre brings back one of the most successful Manchester Santa’s grottos with multiple sessions per day from late November to Christmas Eve.
Everyone gets a ten-minute slot with the elves and the jolly old man in his grotto, which will be at The Orient (the old Franky & Benny's). This year, families will join the Cheer Task Force and embark on a mission to help keep the Cheer-o-Meter glowing bright.
There’ll also be some “Whispering Winter” sessions exclusively for those with special education needs or autism spectrum disorder, with quieter music, fewer visitors, and dimmer lights to ensure everyone can enjoy the festivities.
The Grumpy Grotto Christmas Experience
When: Saturday 6th - Wednesday 24th December 2025
Where: Heaton Park in Manchester
Mix it up a bit this year and go for Manchester’s grumpiest Christmas experience. The Grump is trying to steal Christmas, and they need your help to outsmart him and bring back the festive magic. Leap, run, and explore the treetops, sneak into the Grumpy Grotto and recover the Christmas presents! This hour-long quest ends with a gift to take home.

North Pole Experience
When: Sunday 30th November - Wednesday 24th December 2025
Where: Reddish Vale Farm in Reddish, near Stockport, Greater Manchester
This family-run animal farm park is going all out for Christmas. Their incredible North Pole Experience includes a full tour of the North Pole Christmas HQ, a personal visit from Father Christmas, a visit to Father Christmas’ toy shop, and gingerbread decorating with Mrs Claus.
You can also go to the Pole Office and help save Christmas, explore the Enchanted Elf Village featuring the Holly Jolly Gumdrop Sweet Shop, go through the Naughty/Nice Machine, toast marshmallows, visit Santa’s farmyard friends, build your own Christmas teddy, check out the Elf Academy, and take home a present and reindeer dust. And yes, it will be snowing. (Pst, there’s also festive treats for the adults).
There are also separate sessions specifically for people with special educational needs - these will have quieter music, alterations to the shows, minimal queuing, and only static lighting.
Christmas on the Farm!
When: multiple dates from Saturday 6th - Wednesday 24th December 2025
Where: Lancaster Park and Animal Farm in Oldham, Greater Manchester
We all know that Santa loves his animals - the man has eight reindeer, for goodness sake - but this year, he's going to be testing his chops as a farmhand, getting down and dirty with the pigs and sheep at his grotto in Oldham.
Here, you’ll get to hear a story from Mrs Claus in her cosy cottage, then write your letter to Santa from the log cabin. You may bump into Mr Grinch lurking around Whoville, so watch out for him! And of course, no Christmas experience would be complete without a gift from Santa.
Santa Specials
When: multiple dates in November and December 2025
Where: Bury Bolton Street Station in Bury, Greater Manchester
What’s bound to be one of the most memorable trips of your littlun’s childhood, Bury Bolton Street Station will transform into a winter wonderland where you’ll meet Santa, Mrs Claus, elves, the Ice Princess, a choir of singing polar bears, and a magical talking Christmas tree.
The 80-minute round-trip on the train will feature a visit from Santa, a gift for every littlun, kids’ activity books, and a traditional brass band on board performing Christmas classics.
Sessions specifically for SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) families will be in November, with some tweaks to make it more accessible.
When: Friday 12th December 2025
Where: Ramsbottom Civic Hall in Ramsbottom, Bury, Greater Manchester
Not quite a traditional Santa’s grotto but just as fun - if not more fun - this family bash sees a visit from Santa, magic, face painting, traditional games, a disco soundtracked by a DJ, and raffles and prizes. With plenty for all ages, it’s the perfect way to sink into the festive spirit while the kids stay entertained and enthralled by Santa and activities.

Step Into Christmas
When: Saturday 29th November 2025
Where: Market Place in Macclesfield
Macclesfield Town Council brings the return of the free festive event Step Into Christmas. While they won’t have a grotto, there will be the Father Christmas parade, seeing the big man making his way through town from 3pm before finishing on a big Christmassy sing-along.
The day-long event will kick off at 11am and also feature music on the Silk FM stage, a welcome from the Major, a performance from the Macc Youth Brass Band around the Christmas tree, and the chance to make your own festive buttonhole with local florists HOMEstead GROWN.
Elsewhere, there'll be street entertainment in the forms of stilt-walkers, jugglers, magic, and more, before the parade takes you to the end for a 5pm finish.
On 11th December, the council will also be putting on Twilight Market - a night of enjoying local street food, the market, live music, and mulled wine around the town centre Christmas tree.
Packed with nothing but joy, presents, food, and fun, you can see why the kids love Christmas so much. So why not make it extra special while they’re still young?
