Sound Control is still open - for now

The venue that hosted our 16th birthday celebrations looks in danger of closure.

The site where Manchester's Sound Control proudly sits on New Wakefield Street looks set to undergo massive upheaval with plans for a 35 storey student accommodation being put into place. The venue released the details yesterday in a tweet (see below).

Whilst the news did initially point towards a gloomy future for the venue - which is an integral part of Manchester's culture hosting numerous live gigs and club nights, including our sweet 16th birthday bash in May - the immediate prognosis is the venue is still very much open for business.

Of course this follows the familiar pattern of property developers buying up club spaces and transforming them into accommodation. What they don't realise is that by destroying our venues, they are making it more and more difficult for the stars of tomorrow to ply their trade.

Sound Control has stated that the proposal will not affect their 2017 gig calendar, however, if planning goes ahead, 2018 could mark the end of a brilliant venue.
