The grassroots venues of Sheffield are standing together, Music Venue Trust has announced. A handful of the city’s leading independent music spaces have established the Sheffield Independent Venues Alliance (SIVA) to help defend the city’s future and improve the industry for artists, promoters, fans, and the live scene as a whole.
The locales comprising SIVA are scattered across the city, and include Dryad Works, Alder, Yellow Arch Studios, Southbank Warehouse, FORGE Warehouse, three Exchange Street spaces (Delicious Clam, Panke Social, & Plot 22), Gut Level, Hallamshire Hotel, The Washington, Sidney & Matilda, Haggler’s Corner, Cafe 9, and Crookes Social Club.
Music Venue Trust described the formation of SIVA as “a brilliant move - putting collaboration at the heart of the city’s music scene,” and added that, “Peer-to-peer support, shared solutions, and a united voice are exactly how venues survive the pressures they face.”
The alliance comes as much-needed positive news for grassroots spots in Sheffield and can act as a calling card for independent spaces across the country.
