Liverpool's River of Light festival details confirmed

Returning for its ninth year, River of Light will be back this October with immersive and interactive art across the Liverpool City Centre

Date published: 17th Sep 2026

Delivered by Culture Liverpool, the ninth edition of River of Light returns to the city’s pier head from October 23 to November 1.

This year’s River of Light theme is ‘Together’, focusing on how light brings people closer in a joyful way. People are encouraged to work together to bring the lights to life. Since 2018, the free outdoor light exhibition has attracted thousands of visitors each year.

With nine artworks confirmed, many installations are to come that people can browse and interact with. Partnering with Liverpool ABID, this year's River of Light will also be expanding to new locations, with artworks being displayed in Williamson Square and St Paul's Square.

Artworks that are confirmed are Dream Herd by Amigo and Amigo, an interactive installation; Loop by Oliver Girouard and Jonathan Villeneuve, a flipbook-style piece with sounds and light; and POP! By Gentilhomme, an interactive artwork of playful puppets that come to life.
