An iconic Edinburgh nightclub is being demolished to make way for student flats. The West Tollcross venue opened as The New Cavendish in the 1940s and was known under many names by different generations, such as The Cav, Clouds, Outer Limits, Bermuda Triangle, Lava & Ignite, and most recently as ATIK, before closing in 2023.
ATIK’s closure came as a result of its owners, Rekom UK, being unable to agree a new lease with the building’s landlord. Rekom UK, who also owned Pryzm, later called in administrators amid financial difficulties in January 2024, and separated from its parent company Rekom to re-brand as Cardiff-based NEOS Hospitality Ltd that year, which continues to operate 24 venues.
A beloved and historic venue in the Scottish capital, the West Tollcross club had a storied history, welcoming the likes of Pink Floyd, The Jam and The Ramones over the years, and was prominently featured in the 2017 sequel T2: Trainspotting. The building has remained vacant and abandoned in the three years since it closed its doors.
