Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi’s guitar raffle has raised £50,000 for the Heartlands Hospital Charity Appeal. The Birmingham rock band’s co-founder, who was diagnosed with lymphoma and underwent successful surgery at Heartlands, was selling one of his own Gibson SG guitars.

Iommi said on social media after the auction’s closure, “A massive thank you to everyone who bought tickets to my guitar raffle these past few weeks. Together you’ve raised over £50,000 for the Heartlands Hospital Charity appeal. What an incredible achievement and only possible thanks to all of you.” The £50,000 will go towards Heartland’s aim of raising £150,000 for a refurbishment of its cancer treatment centre.
