Having won Best Vocalist at the Drum&BassArena Awards in 2022, A Little Sound's meteoric rise to the top of the industry has been nothing short of undeniable. Hailing from Taunton but culturally influenced by her time spent in the creative city of Bristol, the multi-talented vocalist, producer and DJ shot to fame after a series of viral TikTok’s showcasing her infectious dreamy vocal hooks, captivated the masses and subsequently earned her a dedicated cult following. Now embarking on more than thirty-five summer shows across not only the UK but Europe and America, the fast-rising talent kicked off her live show season at Brighton’s prestigious and well-renowned Patterns venue, on a night where she delivered more than expected.

Promoted and curated by Supercharged, Friday night saw not only A Little Sound touch down on the Brighton seafront but also fellow drum and bass heavyweight Disrupta, who recently played at Worried About Henry’s 10th-anniversary rave at the Drumsheds. A Little Sound’s arrival on the South Coast has been eagerly anticipated by those who have followed her every move for such a time. On a night that promised everything but gave even more, Patterns was filled with more than 600 ravers all starting their weekend on the perfect high. Having arrived slightly before 1am, which was A Little Sound’s designated set time, the rising talent took to the decks amongst the intimate venue and began what will go down as an absolute classic drum and bass set in the underground.

Despite being the first show of her summer schedule, it was evident to see that A Little Sound is no newcomer on the live circuit. Differentiating herself from the rest of the drum and bass scene, no MC was needed for the evening, and instead, she promoted the interconnectedness of her set by charging up and energising the crowd with her vocals. Immersive and captivating, the intimate nature of Patterns allowed for a set that felt up close and personal, showcasing a wide selection of not only her discography but an array of classic tracks lifted from the drum and bass soundscape. Her live show was the perfect reflection and inference as to how she has become so fast rising in the scene; playing some of her biggest tracks such as ‘Twilight’ and ‘Escape The Lights’, her following turned up in numbers to witness what was an excellently curated setlist of music.

Representative of the new wave of newcomers stepping into the scene offering more than just a DJ set, the hybridisation of vocals and music all from one person is paving the way for more creatives to do everything solo, and A Little Sound is a testament to all the young female creatives getting their foot in the door in the UK scene.

After one hour of infectious energy and drum and bass brilliance, one great replaced another as Disrupta played a secondary set, offloading more heavy dubs, basslines, melodies and synths. The four walls of Patterns that come tight-knit allowed the soundwaves to reverberate through the venue, with the surround sound system leading to a feeling of closeness from the music. It felt as if it was not as much of a supporting set, but instead just a great night showcasing the finest talent within the drum and bass scene. With A Little Sound now embarking on more than thirty other shows throughout the summer, anyone would be silly to miss out on an opportunity to see her dynamic and unique set.
