The Warehouse Project is releasing a short film celebrating the brand’s 20th anniversary. Directed by filmmaker Leigh Powis, whose previous credits include last summer’s Adidas x Oasis collaboration, Twenty Years in Manchester will be released on Thursday 28th May.
Filmed across three nights in Manchester, the six-minute short film offers a visual retrospective of club culture over the course of WHP’s twenty-year history, weaving archival footage in with material captured on some of the world's final Kodak Ektachrome film rolls. Apple Music subscribers can access the film 48 hours before its Thursday 28th May premiere.
Warehouse Project will continue the anniversary celebrations throughout the year with a series of special projects and initiatives, including an outdoor art exhibition in Spinningfields launching this July, a podcast series, and a print magazine.
WHP’s upcoming season begins on Friday 18th September, two decades on from their first edition at the now-demolished Boddingtons Brewery in Strangeways. The club night subsequently moved to a former air raid shelter on Store Street near Manchester Piccadilly, where it stayed between 2007 and 2018, sandwiched between a brief stint at Victoria Warehouse from 2012-13. It moved into its current home at Depot Mayfield in 2019.

Founders Sam Kandel and Richard McGinnis said of the milestone: “Reaching 20 years is a huge moment for us. The Warehouse Project has always been about progression and pushing the boundaries wherever possible. Since that first event when Public Enemy played the opening night at Boddingtons Brewery we’ve always tried to keep things moving and respond as the music and culture around us has evolved. That feels like only yesterday! We have some truly incredible parties and line-ups in the pipeline for this 20th season, and both feel so proud to still be here in Manchester being able to do this”.
