John the Baptist & the Second Coming make their return to The Old Courts! Drawing on influences such as Captain Beefheart, King Crimson, Aphrodite's Child, Roy Wood, Nick Cave, and Can, they provide a sonic assault of electronic synths melded with guitar wizardry and sometimes understated preacher style vocals.
'A great festival brings great surprises and none more so than one of the sets of the day from yet another immense local talent John the Baptist & the 2nd Coming. Previously unknown to this reviewer and badging themselves as Krautrock/Prog/Gnast/Dance/Growl” (!), either way this was a great show. The guys have class, talent, and presence. Against a background of catchy electronica hooks and prog rhythms, flamboyant frontman John Togher had the bouncing crowd eating out of the palm of his hand. If ever a band deserved wider success it’s this crew. Hard to define - their sound is truly original and innovative – and very very good - catch them now before they really take off.' Providing support for the night, and serving up garage psyche and post punk with a twist - we’re pleased to welcome Chorley based band Taser Puppets for the first time – influences include Television, Pixies, Monochrome Set and the Velvet Underground amongst others. The band have had a busy time releasing EP’s via German Shepherd Records and supporting acts such as The Primitives, Yeah Yeah No’s, Bez (Happy Mondays), Interrobang (Chumbawamba) and Tom Hingley (Inspiral Carpets) to name just a few.
Midwich Cukoos: Retro punk goth powerpop = PSYCHO-DELIA! This Wigan based 4 piece started in the late 80's and have kept going ever since under many different guises. Fond of wearing black, (but aren't strictly Goth, just tinged with a little bohemian) the band draw on a range of influences including The Damned, The Walker Brothers, The Phantom Chords, The Music Machine. Iggy & The Stooges, MC5, Billy Fury, Elvis, & The Cramps amongst others.
Flooded Basement: back gigging and writing new material after a quiet spell, they are a relatively new 5 piece from Liverpool who play glam and punk tinged electro alt rock. Already with an impressive gig resume in and around Liverpool, they’re now looking to get back out there and keep the ball rolling – expect a mix of riffs, rhythm and synths all topped off with alt. punk pop vocals.
Opening the night, we’re pleased to welcome Wigan 4 piece Stone Cold Floors who’s influences include Biffy Clyro, Alice Cooper, REM, Eels, Bowie and AC/DC amongst others. Although they first came to be as a band around January 2012 they have now re-emerged after a 4 year hiatus.
