Purcell Symphony Orchestra - Mahler, Ravel, Wieniawski on Sunday 21st October 2018
Purcell School Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Douglas Boyd, Artistic Director of Garsington Opera and L'Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, perform with vibrancy and youthful energy.
Join the orchestra and virtuosic young violin soloist Ilai Avni for Wieniawski’s Second Violin Concerto, one of the greatest of the Romantic era, with its moving melodies and lush harmonies.
Take a magical journey into childhood with the orchestra, through Ravel’s fairy tale suite of pieces inspired by the Mother Goose tales, to a child’s view of heaven in Mahler’s Fourth Symphony. The Symphony ends in song with solo soprano, Purcell alumna, Madeleine Bradbury Rance singing “Das himmlische Leben” (“The Heavenly Life”).
The Purcell School is one of the UK’s leading specialist music schools and holds the UNESCO Mozart Gold Medal in recognition of its unique contribution to music, education and international culture. Alumni include Oliver Knussen CBE; Catrin Finch; Yevgeny Sudbin; BBC Young Musician of the Year winners, Nicholas Daniel, Lara Melda and Martin James Bartlett.
Music Genres: Classical
