A Slice Of Eel Pie on Friday 22nd May 2020
Award-nominated and critically-acclaimed for its total sell-out debut run at the Camden Fringe 2019, this dark and hilarious new play from writer Lesley Ann Albiston comes home – a stone’s throw from Eel Pie Island.
Spanning several decades, and with a killer soundtrack, its principal characters are loveable violent grotesques embodying the human consequences of the permissive sixties and their iconic London hippy epicentre – the infamous commune in the middle of the Thames.
An absurdist revenge tragicomedy exploring identity, freedom, art, gender and murder, all against the tense backdrop of contemporary London.
Critical appraisal of the 2019 Camden Fringe sell-out run:
“A Slice of Eel Pie spins its audience to the heart of the sixties and yanks them back out again” The Upcoming
“There is the feel of an old-style British comedy to ‘A Slice of Eel Pie’ – multi-layered, satisfyingly silly comedy.” View From The Outside
“Outstanding… well worth catching if it returns to the stage after it finishes at Camden Fringe.”★★★★½ Theatre & Arts Review
“Black and outrageous… a seriously funny, uproarious, slightly uncomfortable farce that explores/exposes the joys of familial confusion and identity… Expertly crafted, madcap and well-observed performances create cleverly written mayhem… It is a hilarious piece, cleverly constructed, expertly performed and this will not be the last time it’s seen.” ★★★★ The Review Chap
