Review of Halloween Monster Parade
The site overall was not decorated or themed for Halloween just one section of a barn.
The cinema area was too congested with chairs not allowing sufficient space for those with pushchairs (no dedicated area for them). They were scattered everywhere posing an obstruction and people couldn't be seated in time due to not being able to get in or out.
The old lady who tends to the horses/donkeys was overheard complaining that there should be no adults or children present near the horses/donkeys when they were being walked through an open courtyard on a busy event (why were the logistics of this not discussed prior to the event?) In addition a 9 year old was heard to ask her "what's the average life expectancy of donkeys". Her reply "do you know when you're going to die, no, well there's your answer". We were all left gobsmacked. She clearly didn't want to be there.

Review of Halloween Monster Parade
My family and I attend the Halloween monster parade yesterday. We found the event location lovely and the check in process easy. This however was the only plus points of the day. The pick your own pumpkin sound like a lovely idea, however the pumpkins had just been laid around in the garden on the front of the farm house. Once our children had chosen their pumpkin, the real hard work began. We had to line up, to have the top of the pumpkin cut open, then wait for a spoon to scoop the insides of the pumpkin out. Then wait for a pen to draw our chosen design on the pumpkin, before joining another line to have our design cut out. We also found the prices extortion for food and drink, £1.50 for a can of pop and £4.50 for a cheese burger. Then £2 for some lights (which are from Poundland) for the lantern parade, £2.50 for slime making. Meaning the 2 hours we spent there cost around £60 (including entrance fee). We weren’t even allowed to handle any of the insects or animals that we there, in fact we couldn’t see any of them apart from a snake that was being handled by a boy sat in a chair. All in all we were left very disappointed by the event and would not recommend it.

This event felt overpriced and a bit tired. The entrance ticket was quite expensive and I was disappointed that there was then a charge for a lot of the activities that were on offer. I think events like this at Whirlow Hall are good in the summer, but it didn’t quite work in late Autumn. The children were expected to sit on a cold barn floor to watch the entertainer - seats or hay bales would have made this more comfortable. The screen for Room on The Broom was hard to see clearly [maybe the light levels were wrong?] and overall the atmosphere was a bit lacking. We didn’t stay for the parade as the children were all too cold by this point [despite hats and thermal gloves] so maybe that would have made it more special. Overall I would not recommend this to a friend.

It wasn’t clear from the invite that the event must be attended from 12. We arrived at 3:30 and it felt like everything was over. Pumpkin picking and craving felt rushed. Both workers commented that our design must be easy. Lantern making wasn’t clear so we did what we thought only be instructed that we had used too much paper. The reptile area felt Uninviting and when I asked a girl about the animals she just laughed. We left after 40 minutes.

The event could have done with starting a bit later- we missed the lantern parade (which of course needs to be after dark) because we'd got too cold and bored to wait much longer.
We could have done with a few more activities too- we got through them quite quickly.
However, Whirlow is a fantastic venue as always and the volunteers were great.

Price of tickets was too much for what was actually on, wouldn't go again unfortunately. Not much to do so once you'd been round the different sections which were quite basic, you'd finished in about an hour. Didn't stay for the parade.

The event was brilliant lots of things for kids to do although I think I few more event staff were needed to keep it more organised. The farm was well set out and everyone was very friendly and helpful. My only criticism was the food, there was not enough choice and not value for money. We paid £3.50 for a bacon sandwich but only got one slice of bacon in a huge breadcake so was disappointed with that. Otherwise it was a fab event and would definitely recommend and go again

The only suggestion we have it's about the cinema. The screens could be higher so the heads of the other people it's not a problem or the kids walking in front of the projector. And the sound here it was poor, yes it's for children and it should be not too loud but at the same time children weren't quite so it was quite a lot background noise making almost impossible to heard the film. But in general the event it was very good and we all really enjoyed. Thanks
