Frankenstein, by Tim Kelly, adapted from Mary Shelley's novel on Wednesday 19th - Saturday 22nd February 2020

This February, Midland Players present Tim Kelly’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s iconic novel, Frankenstein.

“I thought, at one time, a new species would bless me as its creator and source. Many excellent natures would owe their being to me.” – Victor Frankenstein.

This unsettling gothic horror production pays homage to early Victorian era stage adaptations of Mary Shelley’s much loved masterpiece. It resurrects lesser explored themes by stripping back the fable, so ingrained in popular culture, of a crazed doctor’s painstaking scientific efforts to build a monster, revealing the complex narrative of a young man’s ambition to possess a power fundamentally belonging to women - the ability to create human life.

Frankenstein’ follows the journey of the titular young Victor Frankenstein as he, a recent drop out from University, along with his best friend Henry Clerval struggle to create a new bride for his lonely Creature. As the Creature gains strength of character and with it a desire to find his place in the world, Frankenstein finds himself spiraling into a deadly torment and must make the impossible choice between saving what he loves or accepting his fate at the hands of his own disturbing creation.

Horror and literature fans as well as regular theatre goers will appreciate this intense take on Shelley’s landmark work that reminds us of Frankenstein’s genre defying nature and an enduring legacy that has overshadowed even its own creator.

Please be advised that this production contains flashing lights, fake blood, gunshots and scenes that some audience members audience may find distressing

Frankenstein runs from Wednesday 19th to Saturday 22nd February 2020, 7.30pm at the University of Sheffield Drama Studio, Glossop Road. Tickets £10 (£8 concessions) available from www.midlandplayers.co.uk, via tickets@midlandplayers.co.uk or on 07928 276 383.
