Manchester Art Gallery and Manchester Metropolitan University present... with Off With Their Heads
Martin Creed and His Band
at Islington Mill, James Street, Salford, M3 5HW.
8th November 2012
The Turner Prize-winning artist Martin Creed and his band come to Manchester for a very special performance to celebrate the release of their debut album Love To You.
Expect short, sharp tunes played loud and fast, featuring a healthy dose of numbers, humour, shouting and swearing. Creed is currently working on an orchestral piece for the London Sinfonietta, and was also commissioned to contribute a work to the Art Council's launch programme of the 2012 Olympic Games.
He has also spent the summer supporting The Cribs
Martin also currently has a work on show at the Manchester Metropolitan University Pavement Gallery.
Work No.268 Half the air in a given space
21st September - 9th November 2012
Pavement Gallery is pleased to present Work no.268 Half the air in a given space by Turner Prize winner Martin Creed. The work will transform the gallery by filling the space with black balloons which are inflated to occupy half the air in the room, therefore converting this normally invisible measurement into a perceptible form. Pavement Gallery is a fitting space to set off the ‚disarmingly simple‚ yet immediately arresting nature of Creed‚s sculptural installations.
External viewing of the gallery and the work is possible at all times; but exclusively for Work no.268 Half the air in a given space, visitors are able to enter the space to fully experience the work. Internal access is only available 2 ‚ 6pm on Fridays and space is limited; due to the size of the gallery, only two people can be admitted at a time and this will be done on a first come, first serve basis. Additionally, booking may be possible at other times, please email email@example.com
Martin Creed's varied artistic practice includes painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, video, music and text. Creed won the Turner prize in 2001 at Tate Britain, London, with his installation Work no. 227: The lights going on and off.
