Review of Reading Comic-Con

This is the first Comic Convention i've been to, so I didn't know what to expect. I guess it was only a small convention so no Harrison Ford or Patrick Stewart :-) It was nice to see Colin Baker though.
I went with my son and he enjoyed it, so that's the main thing, there were obviously loads of comics plus toys and Lego. Every one I met seemed very friendly, I saw some good Cos-players and my son enjoyed meeting the Star Wars characters.
All in all it was definitely worth going to and I'm sure my boy will want to go next year too.
Really enjoyed it looking forward to next year would like to see some marvel
Fun event, but a bit disorganised. No schedule or signing anywhere to be seen, so we missed the Q&A sessions, which we only heard about afterwards.
For a first time event it wasn't too bad but think stretching it over 2 days was pushing it due to the size of the event. Plenty of good things going on but needed more diversity amongst the traders and more cosplayers to brighten it up.
I have never been to a comic con before so I didn't know what to expect, I can say it was a great event and also I it was a wonderful experience, my fiance also went as well and he was very happy to, that and he was star struck with meeting Colin Baker, I hope that there is another one next year and it continues each year, I would also say congratulations to the organisers of the event

Good fun, but if it happens next year, it needs to be better And BIGGER!!
Good weekend for the first comic con in Reading.
Really enjoyed spending the weekend at this event. The turn out was good considering it was the first event. Hopefully in future years it will become better and better xxx
Fantastic time had by all loved it
Bit disappointed, as it was 90% sales, and I didn't recognise most of the stars there (guess that's down to me - I watch more America stuff then English!)
I was expecting it to be awful but actually it was really busy and had quite a lot of stuff going on. As long as they improve on it year on year and it grows it could be amazing. Only critique would be advertsing, I literally saw none so I'm not sure how they filled the place but I think social media and other advertisement would be key to grow the event
For a first event it was really good. The staff were friendly and helpful and the event had a good mix of guests and vendors. One issue was it was not made very clear that there was free parking as the only notices were on the doors by that time people had already paid, so signs in the car park would have helped. There were one or two small issues but overall it was a good event and look forward to next year.
Amazing weekend, lovely variety of stalls, attractions, guests and cosplay, the event was run very smoothly. Everyone was friendly, couldn't fault it!
It was a really lovely small Comic Con with a lovely atmosphere. Really friendly and much more relaxed than the large Cons that I am used to. I would most certainly go again next year. Highly recommended.
I thought for a first time this event was pretty good. haveig some pretty good guests ans interesting cosplay talks. Sadly what let it down somewhat was the lack of stands. What was there was good, but there wasnt enough to look at inbetween talks. I had a propper look at all the stalls within 45 mins. the talks are all that kept me there for longer than an hour and a half. Overall, a pretty good con, good price, good guests and stalls, just needs more!
Small but busy, full of atmosphere with friendly people
Was a good event for the first try. Everything seemed well organised and there was a great atmosphere. The only issue was the size of the venue. It was about right for what they had but could do with having more to make the weekend tickets more appealing. I'm sure with the success they have had this will happen in the future.
Not very pleased. Not really inviting
Not much there apart from stalls
Being the first Comicon for Reading it was a success. The effort put in by the organisers was clear to see. The mix of traders and attractions was good and the atmosphere was exceptional. The staff were welcoming and positive at all times. Any negatives I have are directed at Rivermead itself which everyone in Reading has I'm sure so it is not relevant to the achievement of the Comicon. I really hope it is the first of many and that Rivermead sort their act out to host a growing event diary!
Bit smaller than I expected but good experience overall.
A good family afternoon out. Enjoyed by all and made even better by the friendly atmosphere. Looking forward to the London one next!
A good local con with some interesting attractions like The Walking Dead photos (those zombies were creepy!) and Jurassic Park photo booth.
Certainly could do with at least one big guest to pull in the crowds but had a great selection of stalls with a nice mix of the usual con favourites and some local sellers too. There was a good selection of cosplay and friendly cosplay zone.
On site cafe and burger vans kept con attendees well catered for. Parking was okay but needed a bit of hunting for as arrived late in the day but it was free which is nice.
Overall I would come back again and hope it grows in to a bigger event - tickets were a bit pricey for a small event. Most people I knew only came for one day.
Reading comic con was great as an intro to comic con. It was fantastic as a local event; it was easy to get to and therefore a more relaxing day as there was no stressful journey. I would have liked to see a wider variety of stalls.
Overall Good Event. As it was the first we are expecting lot more in upcoming events. Loved the Cosplay section and slots on comic books. We will love to see more celebrities and more spacious venue from next year.
Overall a great weekend
Big thank you to the Walking dead guys who went out of there way to make my son feel more comfortable around them nice job guys you looked epic !!
Only bad point was once again the sellers were over priced on all merchandise but you come to expect it .
Absolutely brilliant, myself and my 11 year old son loved it,we had weekend tickets and enjoyed both days...hopefully there will be another next year. Great job everyone
Decent for the first one in Reading. Hope to see more for next year.
Overall a great event considering it was a first for the town. Very busy, well attended.
Only gripe was there was to much new stuff being sold by sellers. Next to no high end vintage pieces up for grabs. Quality of 'stars' signing autographs left a bit to be desired also. Will definitely go again though should it return to the town
Good for an hour or so
Wasted 44 pounds for family to go to view range of stalls selling merchandise or charging for signature/ photos of "celebrities". Some people with costumes good but lots were the public visiting rather than provided entertainment. Worth a peek if free but no idea what the 44 paid for. No goody bag, free entertainment consisted of Kit car, dinosaur and jurrasic park range rover and everything had a charge. You even had to pay #5 to sit and have a pic in the delorian.
It was better than I expected, I even managed to get my mums irthday from Colin Baker!!! (Thanks for that)
But I don't think there was enough there to for a whole weekend but definitely enough for one day!
Overall an amazing weekend, hope to be back next year if there is one!
the event was brilliant. i really hope you put it on again next year. My only complaints are: physical tickets sent out would of been better as I wasn't sent my barcode. (i think) so nearly had a heat attack on the door. but it was resolved. it might of just make it simpler if we had tickets . (ones that i would've needed to find a printer to get. Also the photos. I was very excited to get my third picture on the iron throne. but I saw the quality and zoom of the other ones. and they were terrible. you could not even see the whole chair. so I didn't get my picture.
Great event , had a great time
My daughter loved it! My husband preferred it to London comic-con.
It was a fantastic event!! Great guests, outstanding artists, brilliant stalls and an awesome environment with awesome likeminded people. I honestly can't think of anything negative. I really enjoyed Reading Comic-Con I hope this is the first of many more to come to Reading. Thank you to the organizers for putting it on, I will definitely be front of queue next time again.
To be honest I didn't really know what to expect from a convention of this size. Essentially spent £15 to walk around market stools. Not for me.
Small show by comparison to the monsters in the big cities, but very enjoyable and relaxed, and great location. Would go ahead. Could do with being a bit bigger with traders and other features if they could squeeze a bit more out of the space. Guest list was very impressive given the show size, as were the photo props. I congratulate all involved, and I`m becoming a bit of a Comic Con regular these days.
Really good fun event at an easy to access location.
Brilliant. Cant wait for next time
fun packed day!
Mrs Gemma Murphy
It was a really fun and exciting event overall. However, the venue was quite drab and run down.
As this was my first comic con on my own, it was very fun seeing people that I have met at comic cons before and speak to online. I went to see Hannah Spearritt again for the third time this year, and it was great seeing her. Also, Andrew Lee Potts went as well but he confirmed last minute so couldn't get anything from him. Looking forward to the next one!
Great day out. Brilliant atmosphere.
This was a really great event; I bought tickets for me and my children just for the Saturday and they enjoyed it so much that they begged me to take them again the next day so we paid at the door the next day and had an even better time as both kids got into the spirit and insisted that we spend Saturday night making costumes and props. Excellent event, let's have more of it please!
Overall a great event! My son really enjoyed all the stalls and managed to get some great items ! I enjoyed the jewellery stalls and was happy to see something for everyone .
My only points to improve on are , the sound system . If I ever hear "just call me angel of the morning "ever again it will be too soon ! It was literally on a broken loop ! Also , he was desperate to sit on the iron throne , but we couldn't find it , more signs would be great. Also I couldn't find any staff to ask .
We will absolutely be coming next year ! You all did a great job , so we'll done!
I was disappointed and didn't feel that we got a lot for the £10 entry fee. It was really just a few stalls selling items with a couple of side shows.

Sadly due to my son being in intensive care we
were unable to attend this year.

Very Cool and enjoyable Con, a lot of the big events forget what the fans like and just what they think they like .. the smaller events become so much more enjoyable and fun ,, great weekend .. 100% in our diary for next year
As a con attendee i appreciated what effort you guys made for Readings first comic con, i have visited a lot of cons and for the size it was run thoroughly. i only attended for the cosplay aspect, being a cosplay photographer i wanted to see what people local had to offer and boy did they not disappoint. i think next year the room they have will have to be double and maybe look at increasing the budget for cosplay guests. Big name cosplayers bring even more guests and this will increase foot traffic and internet presence before the con . Not to take anything away from the guests you had they did a cracking job i just think it was a tad couped into a small room and it will definitely be bigger next year.
It was a brilliant day out with my son, we had a great time! the venue was good but a bit awkward to get to and a little smaller than expected. The prices on the stalls varied from pretty good to overly expensive but the later were few and far between, so overall a good variety of stalls and different experiences, totally recommended!
Amazing atmosphere and lots of cool things to buy-some were very expensive but worth the cost, most were a fair amount. Guests were great although the photo-shoots could have been organised slightly better. Music was good but would cut out and lag sometimes, more different theme tunes would also be nice.
Fantastic event and hope its a regular thing. Our whole family loved it :)
Nice atmosphere and Q&A session good. A really good family event
Mrs Elizabeth Sims
Really enjoyed the event family friendly, my kids really enjoyed themselves . I love everything Sci fi and hero related, I however only recognized a couple of the people autographing photos, that was really the only down side, the people dressed as characters were fantastic and no amount of photos was a problem! Awesome
A good start. Good selection of stars and props but needs more stalls and more varied. No activities (except zombies) was a bit of a let down for the kids - drawing classes, mini shows by characters, etc
Had a fantastic time look forward to the next one
Great event at a convenient location. Downside was overly expensive food and merchandise at ridiculous proces.
Small but friendly and very well organised event. Went with mu son (12) who loved it. Would certainly go again if it was on next year...
Fantastic, Convention, the organisers did an amazing job. The vibe was very nice, ticket scanning and entry was very efficient, can't fault anything at all.

My daughter and I had a great time! We only went on Saturday as a birthday treat for my daughter and it was better than expected, plenty of stalls, amazing customes and cosplayers, great guest talks and good facilities - bar with cold and hot drinks and cold and hot snacks so didn't have to leave the building for lunch. A great venue and an awesome event, the first Comicon in Reading, please come back again next year!!
Excellent first time comic con, small and freindly, easy and free parking..
Mrs Debra Gillett
Reading Comic-Con is a good event if you're looking to purchase items, but if you are visiting for a visual experience, you may feel a little bored after a while
I attend comic-cons to take photos of cosplayers and any thing else of interest on the day. I prefer the smaller venues like this one and had 2 brilliant days photographing a fabulous collection of creative, cosplayers, performers and artists. The staff were friendly and informative and the space was well filled but not overly so. Overall it felt safe and family friendly. Would recommend your event and will definitely go again next time.
this was the first Comic-con event we had been to, it was very busy with people and for the trade people that were there they showed lots of different goods. It was great to see a good number of people dressed up with favorite idols. The venue was on the small side and couldn't fit any more stands into the hall. We will probably go to the bigger event next year in london, but overall we enjoyed our day out.
what a great day! Exciting , something for everyone and highly well organised!
We had weekend tickets but only went on the Sunday due to family issues. Not sure if there was enough to have kept us there two days but enjoyed the Sunday. Loved the aliens! And the Stormtroupers were cool too.
Would have preferred easier sign posting, e.g. to the retro gaming zone.
It was so much better than i thought it would be.
Cant wait to go to the next one.
it was a fairly small event, but well attended, even on the second day, there were good guest stars too, and i wish i'd done the walking dead thing, but when i arrived everyone seemed to be milling around like they were on lunch so i didn't approach them. it was good that these 'side events' were there though, and made it more than just a 'market' for sales of sci-fi goods. the stage area being separate was good too, and i was really impressed with peoples efforts to go in character, all seemed willing to have their picture taken, if you were brave enough to ask :-) the whole parking thing was a bit confusing though, only when you got right to the event did you see a small notice saying parking was free, this left a few people confused over what they needed to do. it was also good that there were food and drink options available
