The Tebu Project on Friday 15th June 2018
Two of the integral members of The Tebu Project first appeared at Manchester Jazz Festival in Afrika Jazz in 2015, but bandleader Tagné Tebu is well known for his own compositions and collaborations with some of the North West’s jazz greats.
The three musicians scheduled to appear at The Continental are Tagné Tebu(Cameroon), Eddy Tshepe Tshepela and Job Kayembe (DR Congo).
Tagné was born in Douala, Cameroon. A former manager of the Zebson Jazz Academy, he is multi-instrumentalist and composer, he spent several years as a soloist and performer in Cameroon, Germany, Denmark and France. Tagné’s music is powerful and introspective, blending African, Latin and Caribbean musical influences.
Born in Kinshasa, Eddy Tshepe Tshepela studied Jazz Performance and Composition at the prestigious Birmingham Conservatoire. He previously played with Ok Jazz, Bana OK and Zaiko whilst in the Congo, touring Africa and Europe and appearing at festivals all over the world. He is currently setting up a music school in DR Congo.
As a young musician, Job Kayembe is a member of Amani Creatives – an African arts and cultural platform and frequently works with both Tshepe and Tagné Tebu.
