The Muffin Men: with special guest Denny Walley on Thursday 6th April 2017
Celebrating 26 years on the road around Europe. Thursday 6th April 2017 sees THE MUFFIN MEN return to Preston.
The Muffin Men have played nearly 2000 dates around Europe, often featuring ex-Zappa alumni. The band play their own arrangements of Frank Zappa material, along with some note-for-note versions of some favourites. If you know your Zappa, then you'll also know that this is no mean feat!
And this time they're not alone - this time they have the one and only DENNY WALLEY in tow, the 100% bone fide guitar legend who not only played with Zappa himself, but also with Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band!
'A warm, deeply human celebration of the life saving, healing qualities of music; far more than just the self indulgent jam between friends which can happen in lesser hands when the fans team up with the hero. It also acted as a one-fingered salute to the kind of pathetic music snobs who consider tribute bands “beneath” them or “unworthy of their time” (whilst raving about The Royal Ballet and Royal Shakespeare Company, both essentially tribute acts)'
Sean Diamond, Louder Than War
In 26 years of operation, The Muffinz have featured no less than seven original Zappa band members, along with original Mothers Of Invention drummer/vocalist Jimmy Carl Black, as well as performing with Don Preston and Bunk Gardner in 1993. In 1994 they played a nine-week European tour with guest vocalist Ike Willis, and again teamed up with Willis in 2003 for a special Zappanale festival show, which also featured Napoleon Murphy Brock. Mike Keneally has also appeared with the band, along with Ray White, and Robert Martin. And let's not forget Denny, of course!
Always a huge hit when they play here in Preston THE MUFFIN MEN are an absolute must for any fan of Zappa, The Mothers or just plain good rock n' roll.
