Peace & Celebration - a concert of English music to mark the centenary of the armistice at the end of WW1

 

Preston Orpheus Choir autumn concert on Saturday 3rd November 2018

A programme of music reflecting the theme of 'Peace & Celebration” commemorating the end of WW1. The music will include Britten's 'Rejoice in the Lamb” & Elgar's 'Give unto the Lord' along with pieces by Parry, Byrd, lreland, Vaughan Williams & Finzi, also items in which the choir will actively encourage audience participation. This promises to be a varied programme under the direction of new Musical Director Abi Kitching with accompanist Paul Greenhalgh and guest organist, Robin Stopford.

Abi is a Manchester University graduate with 1st class honours where she was MD of Ad Solem, conductor of Manchester Chorus and the Cosmo Singers. ln the past year she has been Assistant Conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Chorus, working on their repertoire, with music ranging from Brahms to Bernstein. As well as Preston Orpheus, Abi is Musical Director of Blackburn Music Society, Darwen Ladies Choir, Women’s Voices (Olympias Music Foundation), as well as a workshop leader for Streetwise Opera, The Irene Taylor Trust, and Contact Theatre. She is also Community Coordinator of The Opera Shack, an accessible opera company which she co-founded.
