Mark Sultan(BBQ)/Horseflies/Fat Earthers/Fuzz Tones DJs + more! on Saturday 8th December 2018

Irrepressible gargage rock/RnB legend Mark Sultan (aka BBQ), Fat Earthers plus further special guests and Fuzz Tones DJs at Southsea’s finest, most elegant boozer: The Wave Maiden.

MARK SULTAN (BBQ) [Dirty Water Records]

Mark is a Berlin-based rock n' roller from Québec with a voice as charming as it is fierce; his oft rambunctious guitar style perfectly complemented by a deeply soulful voice unafraid to careen from romantic to raw territories. Yet we are now also seeing Mark hint at a deeper side to the 60s psychedelic pastures he previously delved into...

Earning the respect of legends like Jon Spencer and Bradford Cox alongside his past work with King Khan and the Black Lips (see: Almighty Defenders), Sultan 'doesn't simply revive old sounds and old excitements; he ingests them, digests them, and regurgitates them as something new and personal' [Pitchfork]

Mark has been releasing some of the finest garage RnB for the last decade on some of the most exciting labels the west has to offer [see Dirty Water/In The Red/Slovenly/Sub Pop/HoZac/Norton/Bomp!/Fat Possum/Goner/Vice], garnering a name for himself as one of the finest purporters of the garage sound that has steadily grown thanks to Mark and contemporaries like Ty Segall, Oh Sees, Jay Reatard, The Dirtbombs, Jon Spencer and the Black Lips.

“For new record Let Me Out, Sultan lets his own voice shine more effusively than ever before. Through 13 tracks filled with his signature moody, ’60s inspired garage rock ’n’ roll, his unmistakeable vocals, instantly transportive to rock’s most vintage moments, breathe new life and bridge periods of time to convey the kind of music that stays with you long after it’s over. After all these years, Let Me Out further cements Sultan’s ingenuity and enterprise as someone who has no chance of slowing down, but this time the world might finally be catching up.’” – Shindig!

'...There's a powerful, surprisingly complicated interplay of emotional currents in these songs, so that even in the most overt party anthems have a raw and wounded underbelly. That's probably what makes them interesting, in a way that most 1960s-referencing garage rock is not. Mark Sultan breathes fire into genres that, in most hands, only gather dust. He's learned to embrace his anger, and if that doesn't save rock 'n' roll, it does at least make for a gripping take on it.' -- Dusted Magazine

'A criminally underappreciated garage rock cult hero who puts on a one-man-band live show so sincerely passionate that he makes most primitive rock 'n' roll revivalists look like cynical imposters...anyone who believes in him needs to pick up this one-take improvised stream-of-consciousness limited-edition live album...deranged but brilliant.' -- NOW Toronto

'The best one man band alive. If you don't believe me, watch him perform. It is absolutely otherworldly and will blow your mind.' -- London Times

New single!

Horseflies sound like Pissed Jeans colliding with Fugazi in a bottomless pit. A loud, sweaty bunch of gentlemen effortlessly swinging between a punk rock dance party and a paranoia filled late night horror soundtrack.

Formed in April 2016, from current and ex-members of Deluxe Flamingos & Attack! Vipers!, Horseflies are a behemoth spouting intricatly articulated, furious bludgeoning aural storms to shake your hips to. Get dirty!

FAT EARTHERS [Prison Records]

Fat Earthers combining drum, guitar and lyric in a psychedelic punky sweat driven haze, once again leaves you questioning everything. A riff-filled two man explosion. Expect wildness. Expect weirdness. Expect a roaring combination of British garage punk with a side order of psychedelics, conspiracy theories and lots of sweat.

'It’s a primal racket that sounds like an early Sub-Pop band playing Spiral Scratch on shit-loads of drugs.' - Louder Than War
'Life's Political'
