Buffo’s Wake are a twelve-legged beast hatched in the murky backwater of Brighton, UK. Armed with accordions, violins and a bucket full of gusto they waltz, tango, mosh and kolo their way through various influences from Eastern European, Balkan and Russian folk, to punk rock and cabaret, telling tales of debauchery, deformity, zombies, incest and anatomy and making the audience dance into the night in the process.
Little is known of the true story of how Buffo’s Wake came to be, though it's rumoured that they bonded over a Ouija board, a bottle of whiskey and Tom Waits. In their brief but bombastic years together, they have toured extensively throughout Europe, playing in over 15 countries as well as countless tours and headline shows throughout the UK. They have made numerous TV and radio appearances including BBC Introducing and have performed at many of the best known British and European festivals including Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Boomtown, Iboga Summer Festival and Bestival - and once managed to get Bodger (of Bodger and Badger fame) so rowdy that he had to be escorted out of a Brighton bar – true story.
Plymouth's own festival party band. The Cabarats bring a new musical experience to the global underground, combining traditional Balkan and Middle Eastern sounds with lively reggae and ska.
Using a collection of intriguing instruments such as accordion, oud, keyboard and brass, the band have dazzled a wide range of audiences from festival crowds to private functions and community events.
After the successful release of their debut album 'Out of the Bag', the last year has been an exciting journey for the rats. The band appeared on one of the main stages at Boomtown Fair and gained the attention of BBC Introducing, performing on their stage at Looe Saves the Day.
2018 also saw the band support renowned acts Tankus the Henge and The Undercover Hippy, before they embarked on a tour of France and played some special wedding parties.
Once again The Cabarats set out to share their magic at festivals, venues, parties and even a few street corners. Keep your eyes peeled for a performance near you!
🎤GYPSYNDICATE (feat guests: Dan and Leo from The Cabarats!)
A love for Balkan beats, klezmer bass and dutty amen madness has brought these three billy goats together - Gajengi x Powello Bros. - to unleash a veritable shitstorm of conscious lyricism, four to the floor breaks and the heaviest, dirtiest squelches this side of the Milky Way. Elements of glitch-hop, ghetto funk, drum and bass, electro swing, hip-hop, techno and a colossal adoration for Balkan music, combined with an unhealthy sexual attraction to goats, ensure that this live performance will have the old folks out of their wheelchairs and into the mosh pits...
