Banks Supper on Friday 13th October 2017
Hosted by Alan Bissett.
While Burns Night is an annual highlight on the Scottish calendar, it’s unfortunate that there isn’t an evening set aside to commemorate a more contemporary Scottish writer.
The late Iain Banks was one of the most loved authors of the modern age, popular across various political and cultural divides, with an output – including ground-breaking sci-fi, classic literary novels and, in his later years, evocative poetry – which touched so many people in Scotland and beyond.
To mark the thirtieth anniversary of Banks’s novel Espedair Street, which is set in Paisley, we’re hosting the inaugural Banks Night, with music, words, food and whisky – he did, after all, write a book about the stuff – to celebrate this fascinating, idiosyncratic and much-missed provocateur.
