Collaborators on Tuesday 30th October - Saturday 3rd November 2018
A black comedy about a dictator, a writer, and completely losing the plot.
Ronin Productions follow their critically-acclaimed production of Landscape with Weapon with this Olivier Award-winning black comedy about loyalty and survival. A must-see for fans of The Death of Stalin, Collaborators is a fast-paced mix of satire, farce, and a biting look at life in a dictatorship.
In Stalinist Russia, dissident writer Mikhail Bulgakov is just trying to keep his head down – but it’s hard to do when your biggest fan is Joseph Stalin, and he wants you to write a play about him for his birthday. With writer’s block, and the secret police breathing down his neck, Bulgakov’s situation looks precarious – until Stalin suggests a secret deal. He’ll take on writing the play – the only downside is, Bulgakov will have to take on running the Soviet Union.
As Bulgakov starts spending his nights with a chummy dictator who wants his approval – and can have him shot if he doesn’t get it – a strange bond develops between them, and the lines between survival and collaboration start to blur. In a struggle between a man, a monster, and the machinery of the state – can Bulgakov survive? And what will the cost be if he does?
