With the recent release of 3rd album ’The Sky Looks Different Here’, PAPER DOLLHOUSE continue their creeping, many-splendored metamorphosis from locked-attic lo-fi folk to neon-lit ghost-pop that captures the revered spirit of progenitors the Cocteau Twins, A.R. Kane, Broadcast and Japan. As on previous LP Aeonflower (Finders Keepers), founder Astrud Steedhouder is joined by multimedia artist Nina Bosnic, but an additional decayed-rave sheen is now added by Asher Levitas (Old Apparatus, Planet Mu).

Here, they headline a bill of Folklore Tapes alumni, whose subtle psychic explorations are ideal for the Valley’s liminal setting - on the cusp of Lancashire/Yorkshire, industry/agriculture, future/past and at the meeting-point of water, land and sky.

“Paper Dollhouse spin hallucinatory dream pop into sublime ambient abstraction” FACT

“This 'gnarly version of Enya' veers between acoustica and atmospherica – but it's definitely a case of the weirder the better” The Guardian

DEAN McPHEE is a Lancastrian finger-picking electric guitarist now based in West Yorkshire. His gorgeously liquid, pure-toned playing is supremely evocative of the small splendours and grand transitions of the natural environment, evinced across a serenely gripping portfolio of releases for Blast First Petite, Folklore Tapes, World in Winter recordings and his own Hood Faire imprint.

MAGPAHI is the singularly apt nom-de-plumage of Todmorden’s Alison Cooper. Powerfully redolent of the classic era of 1970s ‘hauntolgical’ kids’ TV (Children of the Stones, The Owl Service), these gorgeously wrought mediumistic folk vignettes melt into wheezing, whirling poltergeist synth; animated by the gentle necromancy of Cooper’s joyous fascination for mill-town custom, folklore and historical apocrypha.
