Rewind Fast Forward: Screening + Q&A with filmmaker Sandi Hughes on Saturday 11th March 2017

On Saturday 11th March, the Reel Good Film Club will host an exclusive short film screening of Rewind Fast Forward, a cultural film archive through Liverpool’s queer nightlife collated by filmmaker, Sandi Hughes.

The special viewing of Rewind Fast Forward will take place at the New Art Exchange in Nottingham and will be followed by a Q & A with filmmaker, Sandi Hughes, and artists, Evan Ifekoya and Hayley Reid.

Nottingham based filmmaker, Ioney Smallhorne from Nottingham Black Archive will also be joining the panel and screening one of her films from her documentary series Black In The City, in which each short film offers a new perspective of Nottingham's Black narrative.

‘Rewind Fast Forward’ is a cultural photographic and video archive from 1975-2005 which looks back at the music, club and fashion sub-cultures in Liverpool, and their intersections with local LGBT and BAME history. The archive, was created by Sandi Hughes, a feminist filmmaker, DJ and poet who has put together hundreds of hours of film, thousands of photographs, nightclub flyers, posters and magazines which capture the marginalised and outrageous characters of Liverpool she mixed with during the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Now at the age of 73, Sandi's extraordinary life - as a child raised in foster care, as a mother who fought a homophobic custody battle, and as an artist, feminist and DJ - is explored in three short films created from her archive – one by Sandi herself, and two more by artists Evan Ifekoya and Hayley Reid.

The project has been supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Film Hub North West Central, the British Film Institute Film Audience Network and the Liverpool Record Office.

The screening is a free event and will start at 6pm and finish at 9pm.

Tickets are free but will need to be booked via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/reel-good-film-club-presents-rewind-fast-forward-ft-sandi-hughes-post-discussion-panel-tickets-32239369823
