Folk on The Pier on Friday 10th - Sunday 12th May 2019

Cromer’s popular music festival will be twenty-one years old when it returns to the town’s Pavilion Theatre on 10, 11 and 12 May. The event will celebrate its ‘coming of age’ with a line-up featuring some of the most highly respected stars of the folk rock world.

The festival offers six concerts over the three days each with a top name headliner and with only a handful of full weekend passes available tickets for the individual concerts are now on sale.

The Friday afternoon concert will see a rare performance by John Tams and Barry Coope, a duetting on many of Tam’s powerful songs. In the evening a collective of musicians from across the music world will treat fans of Fairport Convention to their interpretations of the songs of Sandy Denny. The six-piece line-up includes songstress Sally Barker and members of a number of other favourite bands who have appeared at Folk on the Pier over the years.

Saturday’s afternoon concert will feature a set from festival patron Ashley Hutchings, the founding father of British folk rock. He will perform a duo set with singer songwriter Becky Mills. Together they will perform songs from each of their new albums both of which have received glowing reviews and praise.

Closing Saturday evening’s concert will be Daphne’s Flight – five of the best singer songwriters to ever grace the stage together. The line-up includes Chris While, Julie Matthews and Christine Collister who are no strangers to the festival, but for Melanie Harrold and Helen Watson this appearance at Folk on The Pier will be their first visit. Their set includes individual performances of their own songs and various collaborations of stunning harmonies.

Sunday takes on a strong party atmosphere with a rousing set by up-and-coming band Merry Hell headlining the afternoon concert and to close the show in the evening we are welcoming back one of our most popular artists Oysterband who recently celebrated forty years of touring. This multi award-winning band is renowned for having brought power, passion and poetry to folk and roots music and continues to deliver energetic rousing sets wherever they perform.

“Having Oysterband as our final act is the perfect way to close the festival this year” says festival organizer Scott Butler. “They are by far one of the most oft requested artists by our audience and certainly one my personal favourite folk rock acts”. “it was my love of folk rock that inspired the very first festival in 1999 and Oysterband are masters of the genre” he adds.

And what of the coming of age of the festival? he asks “Does that mean we are supposed to grow up?”

Tickets for the individual afternoon concerts cost £20, tickets for the evening concerts cost £23 and are now on sale from the Pavilion Theatre box office 01263 512495,

A limited number of weekend tickets are available costing £107.50 (a saving of £21.50) until 31 December. Thereafter the cost will be £117.50

Details of the full festival line-up will be announced shortly
