This show is more than a gig — it’s a heartfelt tribute, performed in Chris Rea’s hometown, at a time when his music means more than ever.

On Friday 1st May 2026, following the recent passing of one of Britain’s most distinctive and beloved singer-songwriters, Rea-Loaded bring Celebrating the Legend Chris Rea to Middlesbrough, honouring the man whose voice, guitar and songwriting shaped generations.

Rea-Loaded is a new project formed by highly experienced musicians from the West Midlands, brought together with one clear aim: to create an authentic, respectful and emotionally powerful tribute to Chris Rea’s music.

Founder member and drummer Ed Taylor had long wondered why so few tribute acts truly captured Chris Rea’s unique sound and presence. Having met Chris several times over the years in international motorsport paddocks — another of Chris’s great passions — Ed felt a deep personal connection to both the man and his music.

After a previous project with guitarist Neil Gordon, Ed realised Neil possessed not only the guitar feel but also the smoky, soulful voice needed to do these songs justice. After much persuasion, Neil embraced the challenge — and the result is a performance that honours the depth, warmth and subtle power of Chris Rea’s work.

They are joined by seasoned musicians who truly “know the ropes”:

• Pez Connor – bass

Together, this 5-piece band delivers a rich, faithful live sound that allows these songs to breathe — just as they should.

Chris Rea’s music is not easy to emulate. That deep, unmistakable voice. That instantly recognisable guitar tone. Songs filled with soul, longing, love and reflection. Songs that deserve to be heard live — especially now.
