Richard Grainger and Chris Parkinson on Thursday 29th November 2018
Richard Grainger is a singer from the Teesside tradition who started singing in Middlesbrough and then Stockton Folk Clubs, became a member of the Teesside Fettlers, leaving three years later to pursue a solo career in 1986. Since then he has produced 14 albums and performed around the world. His latest tour has taken him to Australia and New Zealand, Germany and other dates in the UK. He is known for his songs of Teesside and Yorkshire and in recent years has produced a number of musical plays. He is an avid champion of folk music, a accomplished guitarist, and a prolific songwriter, with many of his songs widely sung by other artists.
Chris Parkinson has teamed up with Richard since 1993, with breaks here and there, as their careers have taken different paths. Chris is a former member of the popular House Band , with whom he travelled the world, touring mainly in the USA. He is an accordion ‘guru’ having played with many others including John Kirkpatrick, Martin Carthy, Dave Swarbrick, Norma Waterson and the Eliza Carthy Band. Richard and Chris first recorded together on the album ‘Thunderwood' in 1994 and as recently as 2015 on the acclaimed ''Hard Road To Prospect Hill’. He is well known as a musician of the highest order.
