Trojan Horse Musical Industries Present: ANTA+PIGSHACKLE+RAPID PIG on Tuesday 6th August 2013

We have a fucking BRILLIANT one for you now dont we.

ANTA - Bristol's Four headed Progressive behemoth. By the time this gig comes round they'll have dropped their new opus 'Centurionaut' which promises to be all kinds of silly heavy, intricate and balls to the wall honest to god chock full of pop hooks (so we're told, reliably)

"Loud, visceral, imposing, intelligent. Based in the creative hub of Bristol, UK, ANTA formed in early 2010 and quickly set to establishing a fearsome live reputation, the initial material forming the backbone of their debut album ‘The Tree That Bears The Equine Fruit’. Since its release, the instrumental quartet have seen a change in guitarist, played countless shows across the UK sharing stages with bands such as Mugstar, Trans Am, Chrome Hoof, Thought Forms and Bardo Pond, as well as numerous festival appearances (including a notable midday slot at Supernormal Festival, guaranteeing nobody on site stayed asleep past 12). The last eighteen months have seen the band’s sound evolve from the lurching, exploratory doomscapes that defined their debut, into something considerably more concise, focussed and sonically aggressive.
‘Centurionaut’ is the culmination of a year’s worth of writing, playing, refining and honing. Recorded at Geoff Barrow’s State Of Art studio, for their second record ANTA have created an album with all the fat trimmed, not a second is wasted in its 40 tight, punchy minutes. All of the band’s hallmarks are present: kinetic, inventive drum work, guttural, throat-rattling bass, beautifully intertwined synth and organ lines and filthy, driving guitar. This time round though, the immediacy and urgency in the songs’ execution leaves you short of breath.

The album will be released in June on the band’s own Thrones & Dominions label on boutique heavyweight gatefold vinyl and digital download. In the run up to the album, a series of remixes commissioned by the band themselves will be released, with re-interpretations of all the album’s tracks by Dälek, Antoni Maiovvi, Bronnt Industries Kapital, Ladyscraper, Fairhorns and ORE. A single and video for ‘Dolmen’, track 3 of the album, will also precede the release.

A heavy band for whom considered songwriting and catchy hooks are as important as bruising riffs, in ‘Centurionaut’ ANTA have produced the most convincing demonstration of their vision so far."

PIGSHACKLE - Plucky Londoners who managed to gene splice the Melvins with the last vestiges of riffy late 70s King Crimson, while channelling the spirit of Zappa jamming Ornette Coleman tracks. Loud and angular, weird and utterly utterly brilliant.

"Pigshackle is a four stage experimental Alchemic process disguised as a child's Victorian parlour game. A laboratory of fizzing oxides and bubbling mercury colliding with the nostalgic melancholy of an oak-whittled rocking horse.

A vision of the future seen through John Dee's eyes where the unravelling secrets of nature taunt the minds of men. The merging of solar and lunar, the shaping of the elements and the taming of man and beast. A dance ignorant of conventional forms and performed in the golden ballrooms of the Celestion.

It is your hopes and dreams turned to coal, the wrenching of your soul from its physical bondage and the carving of your granite sarcophagi. Rejoice, pilgrim, your journey is nearly at its end. "

RAPID PIG - Manchester weird rock stalwarts. I was going to write up some more stuff but the official description does the job perfectly...

"Manchester antagonists Rapid Pig have been terrorising, delighting, and baffling since the band's inception.
There are expanses of light and shade, tension and release, tempo shifts and often startling dynamic shifts.
Their list of raw materials range from folk to metal, from prog to punk and from funk to honest-to-goodness R'n'R.
These myriad infuences are not merely set uncomfortably one after another in a linear fashion, rather somehow
stacked vertically. Results have been described variously as 'visceral' and 'I-don't-know-what-it-is-but-I-like-it.'"
