On this day 37 years ago Grammy award winning album was born into the world, self-titled 'Tracy Chapman' - 1988.
Often praised for its powerful social commentary, particularly regarding issues like poverty and domestic violence with poignant and poetic lyrics, Chapman's strong vocal tone and topics of discussion are timeliness and prove relevant even her themes even today, despite the album's classic folk-style production it stood out against the popular music of the late 80s.
Local soulstress Yemi Bolatiwa is seen regularly on stages across Manchester, Albert's Schloss, The Blues Kitchen and with The Untold Orchestra and as independent artist on her own contemporary and nu-soul creations. After a successful 4 show run of her Sade show, more homages to her musical influences are in the pipeline starting with this tribute to an album that reminds her of the days she was a passenger in her parents cars, absorbing the soul ,melodies, the depths and gravity of songs such as 'Behind The Wall' and 'Across The Lines', at just aged 8 or 9.
