A Love From Outer Space at The Refuge Basement on Saturday 15th April 2017

The Refuge Basement presents Andrew Weatherall’s ‘A Love From Outer Space’

Manchester’s newest party venue, The Refuge Basement, will be hosting Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston’s celebrated touring club night ‘A Love From Outer Space’ on the 15th April 2017.

Designed to unveil and showcase secret, subterranean space deep below the Principal Hotel, this cosmic rave will be the second instalment in a series of events curated by DJ duo the Unabomber's, who were commissioned to reinvent The Refuge bar and basement.

Presented by Manchester house and techno heavyweights Zutekh, the stars of this celestial night will be legendary DJ and producer Andrew Weatherall, and long-term partner-in-crime Sean Johnston of The Hardy Boys. Sharing a passion for styles ranging from post-punk to dub, ‘A Love From Outer Space’ is as much inspired by these early influences as by contemporary electronic music.

DJ Sean Johnston said,

'We've got stuck in a situation where clubs are full of DJs playing all the latest Beatport top 100 deep house records. I think we’re presenting something different.'

Hidden deep beneath Manchester's Oxford Road pavements, the darkened recesses of the Refuge Basement will provide the perfect setting for this galactic get-together which is described by Weatherall as “an oasis of slowness in a world of increasing velocity”. As the overlying philosophy of the night is to not play a record faster than 120 bpm, this prolific pair will be making a conscious effort to slow the beats right down so ravers can enjoy more 'space' in the music.

DJ and Refuge Events Curator Luke Unabomber said,

“The response that we’ve had to the unveiling of basement has been phenomenal; it just really seems to resonate with Manchester’s ravers.

Tickets for our Electric Chair party sold out in just three hours, and we expect just as much demand, if not more, for ‘A Love From Outer Space.’

It's great to watch this venue grow and evolve with an eclectic mix of one-off gigs, and with many more planned we’re certain we can establish the Refuge Basement as Manchester’s stand-out rave destination.'

Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston Presents: A Love From Outer Space will take place Saturday 15th April 2017 from 11pm-4am.

Tickets are priced from £10 and are available from Skiddle & Resident Advisor.
