The Soup Kitchen is a real throw back to venues of the '80s & they have spared no expense to make the basement venue as luscious & comfortable as possible.
Only joking - The Soup Kitchen is the scuzziest venue in Manchester. Concrete walls with big dents in it, damp naked brick work & cracked peeling paint here and there and there and there......................
It's as though the owners had just set a gig up on the spur of the moment and never changed anything since - bit like a squat. So, dig a load of clothes out of your wash bag & put 'em back on or put your decorating clothes on.

If you know Year of the Horse by Neil Young - at the start somebody shouts "They all sound the same" & he replies "It's all one song".
That applies to Follakzoid - apart from the "song" because they don't do songs. But Brian Eno-like ambience it ain't. They play a three 20 minute sonic groove set & could have just played for an hour non-stop as there was very little difference between any of the three "pieces".
I made a point of listening the drums & bass as there was some quite interesting stuff going on. But the guitarist spent most of his time either bent down fiddling with the effects or waving his arms around in ravey-gravey style. When he did play, he scuttled across the strings & then hit a multitude of effects pedals. There wasn't even a semblance of a riff or tune played. All they need is an arranger to work on those single note "songs" & they'll be huge. The idea is great but the reality is not so.
