Blue Bendy, Heartworms + Mewn on Saturday 22nd January 2022
Yuck Magazine Presents
When Blue Bendy independently released the debut single ‘Suspension’ in 2019, it caught the attention of producer Margo Broom – Fat White Family, Goat Girl – who understood the potential in that single and the pop experimentalism that needed to be conjured from the six-piece. 2021’s ‘International’ and ‘Glosso Babel’, the first products of their work with Broom, established Blue Bendy as one of the most exciting bands emerging from South London.
Heartworms, the brainchild of musician and poet Jojo Orme, is a cauldron of perplexity. Orme's gothic take on avant-garde post-punk is beguiling; sardonic prose is delivered in a deceptively innocent manner, while irresistibly off-kilter grooves clash with a cacophony of reverb-drenched guitars.
Hailing from Manchester, the five-piece have garnered a burgeoning reputation for creating fascinating soundscapes blending the best of British psychedelia and European art-rock. Recently leaving behind their dream-pop influences heard on previous releases, Mewn are back better, darker and grittier than ever.
