Black History Month at NIAMOS culminates with a weekend of music representing the musical history of the iconic NIA building. Originally the Playhouse a purpose-built theatre. built in 1902, Jewel in the Crown of musical eras, owned by the BBC in 1960's, re-opened in 1991 THE NIA African Arts Centre From its origins as an orchestral concert hall through its place in history as a centre for action for the anti-Apartheid movement to its current rebirth into a centre for musical innovation, creativity and excellence.
We welcome Virtuoso double bassist Leon Bosch performing the world premiere of the Keyper concerto for double bass no. 5 and conduct work by the black 18th century composer and son of a slave, the Chevalier de Saint Georges. Supported by the Manchester based Untold Orchestra
Followed by a co-llaberation with Classical Evolution and produced by the legendary MC BuzzB, 'Lion Rock' an improvised Dub Classical Piece
The orchestra will then work with local dub producers, and MCs to create works unique to each night.
This will be a truly unique musical journey to celebrate the past, present and future of creativity at NIAMOS.
This will be a seated performance in the 1st tier of the theatre, with 3 intervals and a full bar and kitchen open for the evening.
