About

The observation of the University of Manchester's 200th anniversary this year is a
significant achievement for which many groups of people and organisations have
contributed. This bicentenary reflection and celebration in academic
scholarship/intervention, national/international developments, science and
industry as well as the humanities cannot be reflected on without acknowledging the significant contribution of people from the continent of Africa as well as the African Diaspora.

Delivered by Washington Alcott, this illustrative presentation is a review and critique. It will focus on the African presence in the University 200 years of history. Drawing on the University’s extensive archival records, books, public inscription and graduates the presentation will expand on the involvement and contribution of people of African descent in different areas of the University's socio-cultural and economic life.

Refreshments will be provided.
