Discover the world in one weekend at the JOURNEYS Weekender, two days of free entertainment featuring a line-up of incredible emerging and established refugee artists from across the globe. Cathedral Gardens will host a main stage of world music talent, creative workshops and street food vendors for everyone to enjoy. Plus find out more about how Manchester supports refugee and asylum seekers and how you can get involved.

SATURDAY Line Up // 12 - 6pm

1 - 1.35PM - SECRET ACT TBA

2 - 2.35PM MOHAMMED YAHYA

Mozambican born rapper and spoken word artist, forced to flee his home country, Mohammed delivers soulful and compassionate lyricism with energy and emotion.

3 - 4PM MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL ROOTS ORCHESTRA
A unique ensemble fusing diverse musical influences from Eastern Europe to South Asia, embracing rap, hip-hop, classical music and jazz along the way.

4.15 - 4.45PM WONDERGUPTA
Manchester based Satellite State Disko present a DJ set from Wondergupta with current and vintage global tunes and spoken word.

5.15 - 6PM 47 SOUL
Formed in Amman, Jordan, 47 SOUL blast Arabic Dbake beats that have been bumping in the Arab World for centuries. With synth, hypnotic guitar lines and shattering lyrical verses.

12 - 12.45PM AMANI COLLECTIVE
Established and emerging African musicians who celebrate traditional and contemporary African genres from Soukous, Afro-Jazz and Gospel to Intore and Bikusi.

1.15 - 1.45PM SIMO LAGNAWI with GNAWA LONDON
Simo Lagnawi bring the sacred Moroccan trance music Gnawa, pushing to new boundaries with fusions from Japan, Venezuela, the Caribbean and more.

2.05 - 2.40PM FARHOOD
Liverpool-based MC from Tehran, Farhood delivers lyrics in Farsi with a fiery intensity, calling for social and political change in his home country of Iran.

3 - 3.30PM POETIC PILGRIMAGE
Dubbed the 'hip-hops hijabis,' this unique duo have unparalleled lyricism and thought provoking content, set to a backdrop of progressive hip hop beats or stripped down spoken word poetry.

4 - 4.45PM GRRRL - A Refutronic Choir
GRRRL - A Refutronic Choir is an electronic choir formed by 8 independent, revolutionary female artists, directed by Brazil’s Laima Leyton (Mixhell//Soulwax) and Manchester based electronic artist AFRODEUTSCHE. Artists include Founder of Amani Creatives Emmanuela Yogolelo, Cultural Activist Ruby Ann Patterson, Sufi singer/songwriter Sarah Yaseen, Zimbabwe’s Rap Queen African Women Arise and more. [Commissioned by IPOW, Journeys Festival International and ArtReach.]

5.15 - 6PM KRAR COLLECTIVE
A hypnotic Ethipopian three-piece who find the balance between the rawness of roots and an innovative spirit.

WORKSHOPS

The JOURNEYS Weekender has free workshops with Asylum Matters, Rethink Rebuild, Manchester Refugee Support Network and United for Change. Get crafty or experience VR to discover the magic of different cultures.

Drop in anytime between 12 - 5pm, no booking required. Suitable for all ages. PLUS - global street food. Available all day!
