The highlight of tonight’s packed programme is a major new work from one of our country’s greatest living composers. Commissioned by Psappha and written for incomparable jazz singer Ian Shaw and a 16-strong ensemble, Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Black Milk receives its world premiere here – exactly 12 months after its planned first performance fell victim to the coronavirus.

Also tonight, two works created for our Composing For project, Grace-Evangeline Mason’s hauntingly tender piece for solo harp and Matthew Grouse’s invigorating bassoon solo, and a pair of Viennese chamber-group classics by Anton Webern and Alban Berg.

Ian Shaw Vocalist

Into the Music (6.40pm): Mark-Anthony Turnage joins Psappha’s Tim Williams and the RNCM’s Douglas Jarman to introduce tonight’s concert. Free to ticket-holders.

Tonight’s concert will end at approximately 9.30pm.
