World class piano virtuoso Dom Pipkin brings New Orleans straight to London. Hugh Laurie and Jamie Cullum are fans of his acclaimed band, the Ikos.

Dom and the Ikos Live at Pizza Express, Chelsea on Monday 23rd December 2019

One of Europe’s top exponents of New Orleans rhythm and blues, piano player Dom Pipkin breathes new life into the classic funk sounds of The Meters, Dr John, Fats Domino and Professor Longhair with a stellar list of festival and radio and TV appearances including The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the London Jazz Festival, and an extended residency at Ronnie Scott’s famous jazz club in London.

Pipkin has travelled the world as Musical Director to acts such as Paloma Faith, playing keyboards for Morcheeba, Paul Weller, Laura Mvula, Ray Davies and Pee Wee Ellis to name just a few, but has always kept a close connection to New Orleans, where he is a regular visitor and performer. 2014 saw him sharing a stage with fellow piano stars Allen Toussaint, Jon Cleary, and Ellis Marsalis at the prestigious “Piano Night” there.

Having started out with residencies at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Pipkin’s all-star band The Ikos bring the sounds of New Orleans blues and RnB to every venue they visit. The music of the Crescent City – Fats Domino, Dr John and Professor Longhair, plus the funk of the Meters, hits you in the soul with every beat of this unique group, delivering the most authentic and compelling take on this highly infectious and life affirming blend of blues, gospel, street and jazz that is uniquely New Orleans you’ll find in the UK today. Pipkin’s fans and friends range from New Orleans musicians Zigaboo Modeliste, Paul Sanchez and Jon Cleary through to Jonathan Ross, Paul Weller, Paloma Faith, David Arnold, and Jamie Cullum.

The band features top American and UK horn players Mirco Altenbach and Trevor Walker, with Annie Lennox’s drummer Jimmy Norden and Tom Jones’ bass player Nick Pini.
