Canada Goose 'Keeping The Planet Cold' Exhibition
From 17th – 21st February, Canada Goose and Central Saint Martins will host a thought-provoking and inspiring new exhibition that brings to life their shared vision for a better future. Inspired by the brand's purpose, 'Keeping The Planet Cold' tells a story of how we can shape the world through creative action and purpose driven design. The exhibition shines a light on tomorrow's fashion designers and creatives, and showcases an immersive curation of outerwear pieces, lifestyle objects and mixed media portfolios that represent sustainable design through the lens of the next generation.
Taking place at Central Saint Martins' Lethaby Gallery in Granary Square and curated by leading fashion historian, curator and Professor of Fashion History and Theory at Central Saint Martins, Alastair O'Neill, alongside set design by the MA Architecture academics.
The MA Fashion Students were invited by the performance luxury brand to design sustainably-led capsule collections, inspired by research scientists at Polar Bears International (PBI), a non-profit focused on polar bear conservation based in Churchill, Manitoba. PBI and Canada Goose are longstanding partners, having been working together on various initiatives since 2007. BA Fashion and Communication students were briefed to design objects using Canada Goose warranty product to support the circular economy.
Among the work on display at the exhibition are a selection of MA student designs that stood out as exceptional to a judging panel during the project partnership including capsules by Arianna Ablondi Pedretti, Chie Kaya and Jacob Yakubu Stapleton. They all demonstrated a deep understanding of the functional needs of the PBI team, while also incorporating a sustainable design approach with bold and creative innovations. BA student designs that came highly commended included a Secret Tree Quilt, a Canadian Reminiscence swimwear collection and Nuna the multifunctional Earth Creature and bag.
