Prince 5 Year Anniversary Special with Marlon Celestine + Kyri on Sunday 30th May 2021

SOUNDS OF PRINCE - 5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL! Sun May 30 - Cult of Prince members DJ MARLON CELESTE + KYRI (r2 Records) invite you to audio worship at the Cuban heeled feet of the man who should of been called king and at one time had no name. The Duo delivering a purple themed 7 hour Armchair Rooftop session set covering over 40 years of the sounds of Prince Rogers Nelson - as well as a wider selection of Minneapolis Sounds including the music of Prince, The Time, Sheila E and more recognisable associates like The Family - explored all day long, Free entry at The CLF Art Lounge & Roof Garden.

MARLON CELESTINE

After DJing at various Prince club and boat parties around the country, Marlon finally settled in a small club off Oxford Street in 1994, playing there for two years before moving on to co-pilot the Mukatsuku nights with the world famous Nik Weston.

This leading to various other club nights and events for Marlon, but the weekly West End Tuesday night sessions were amongst his best and well known. A weekly residency specialising in all things funk, with a wide selection of Minneapolis Sounds including the music of Prince, The Time, Sheila E and the more recognisable associates like The Family to the lesser known ones as well dropped each and every week.

Parliament Funkadelic, James Brown and rare out-takes from the Prince vault are usually an essential part of any Marlon Celestine set.

'When I play I am always striving to tell the history of a genre with great records that will put a smile on your face and keep your body moving, whether it be funk, hip-hop or house. I specialise in vinyl only sets but I may have to make an exception for CLF”

Marlon is also a complete Prince Nut, owning every record ever released by Prince, 1977 to date, add to that the equally Prince obsessed KYRI of R2 Records and know that you’re in extremely capable audio hands.

KYRI

Kyri founded R2 Records in 1999 and in that time has released music from some of the greatest names in dance music, including Osunlade (Yoruba Records), Karizma (Kohesive/Baltimore), Atjazz (ARCo.), Louie Vega (Masters At Work) and Ron Trent.

R2 has also championed new talents like Floating Points, Swingkid, Kissey Asplund and Piscean Group.

Like his label, Kyri’s djing style draws on twenty-five years experience and reflects a wide spectrum of soulful music from funk, boogie, disco, jazz, hip-hop through to deep tech via afro, latin and house. He has played at such diverse parties as Masters @ Work 10th Anniversary celebration in Ibiza, Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson’s legendary “Loft” party in London and Tim Westwood’s Carnival Party, embodying his belief in the relationship between all soulful music.
