Back to the Blues with Aruna Sairam & Soumik Datta on Thursday 15th March 2018

This is a one off collaboration between Aruna Sairam and Soumik Datta, two of the finest cross-cultural collaborators of Indian classical music and Indo-jazz.

The vocal style of legendary songstress Aruna Sairam is deeply rooted in the South Indian (Carnatic tradition), this collaboration is her latest of many – including Sufi, jazz and Gregorian chant. Not only a sarod virtuoso and composer, Soumik Datta also creates fabulous new pieces, collaborating with musicians from around the world, from Korea to Congo.

A team of improvisers will join them: Pirashanna Thevarajah on morsing, kanjira and mridangam; Cormac Byrne on bodhrán and percussion; and Al MacSween on piano.

The Bagri Foundation, in association with Soumik Datta Arts presents this unique concert.

Music Genres:

Blues, Jazz, World Music
