Sons Of Kemet on Tuesday 23rd October 2018
Soundcrash presents the most explosive force in UK Jazz - Sons of Kemet live at KOKO London.
After selling out their intimate album launch (Your Queen is a Reptile) at Total Refreshment Centre in a matter of hours, Sons of Kemet are returning to the capital for a full-scale show of gritty jazz at KOKO.
The credentials accumulated by the group are astonishing; led by saxophonist, clarinettist and composer Shabaka Hutchings who was awarded the title of ‘BBC New Generation Artist’, this is a ‘supergroup’ of sorts, featuring Theon Cross on tuba and both Seb Rochford (Polar Bear, Babyshambles) and Tom Skinner (Melt Yourself Down, Mulatu Astatke) on drums. Together, this eclectic group of musicians come together to weave a musical tapestry of jazz that draws upon Afrobeat, dub, Caribbean soca, and grime, to create a hard-hitting, addictive, and groundbreak sound. Live shows from this band are becoming the stuff of legends.
At KOKO, Sons of Kemet will unleash their full potential on the lucky crowd. Expect wonderfully guttural brass belches, drum beats that will keep you wanting more, and a frenzy of exhilarating melodies.
