Fitzroy Facey formally known as from his DJ pseudonym ‘Da Buzzboy’made his
debut DJing in London’s west end almost forty years ago on the same circuit with
many of todays recognised industry movers and shakers.
Fitzroy carved himself a niche working with live acts for over thirty years at many of
London’s established and premier live event venues As well as compiling various
albums and remixing, Fitzroy co runs his own record label KR8IV Records as well as
co founding and is now the sole owner ,director and publisher of the A5 bi-monthly
magazine ‘The Soul Survivors’ since 2006. Celebrating eighteen years in July 2024 as
a bi monthly A5 printed and digital publication, Fitzroy with his in-depth knowledge,
has interviewed many of the most iconic heroes and sheros worldwide of the jazz,
funk, soul, disco and boogie world from the 1960s to the present day.
Fitzroy curated and self funded the fifth Soul Survivors Magazine Soul Survivor
Awards at Under The Bridge in Chelsea SW6 in February 17th 2017, which hosted the
debut live launch gig of The Brit Funk Association. The band is made of of ex
members of respected and successful Brit Funk outfits Light Of The World, Central
Line, Beggar & Co and Hi Tension. The event pulled in five hundred people including
Greg Edwards, Robbie Vincent, Jeff Young, Stevie Wonder’s European Manager
Keith Harris, ex Spurs footballer and commentator Garth Crooks and Jeffrey Daniel
of Shalamar.
Fitzroy has been featured on occasion as well as regularly at some of the most
recognised soul weekenders and festivals in the UK’s soul music yearly calendar
including Southport, Blackpool (Luxury Soul) Love Supreme, Margate Soul Festival,
Summer Soulstice, and in November 2021 the Butlins Soul Weekender in Skegness.
Fitzroy has twice been selected to support headlined legend DJ Grandmaster Flash at his London dates. Fitzroy’s is often Fitzroy counselled to speak historically on
various platforms, and was featured in the BBC IPlayer Jazz Funk Documentary
aired in July 2020. Fitzroy continues to be booked for various club and live concerts
dates and has hosted shows on various soul stations over the years including Kiss,
Choice, Solar, Colourful, Stomp and currently London London Music Radio.
