Vintage rockin rhythm n blues with JG and The Ultimates on Thursday 12th September 2019
Top-of-the-shop vintage sounds and rockin' rhythm and blues as guitarist Jay Gipson leads the Ultimates into SW16 for their Hideaway debut.
Tearing up the vintage dance circuit for the last seven years, JG and The Ultimates immerse their audiences in the authentic sounds of 50's RandB, jump and jive.
Jay Gipson has played guitar and been performing now for 30 years in a variety of bands, guises and genres, performing live at Viva Las Vegas, Atomic Festival, Twinwood, Secret Garden Party, The Rhythm Riot and many other shows and clubs in the UK and across Europe.
Jay released two solo albums in 2003 and 2006 and has also collaborated on several other artists releases. But it's his time over the past seven years that have really helped shape his latest musical venture.
'I've always loved blues, jazz and soul of all kinds and it's what I've listened to and been into the most since I first picked up a guitar. But it wasn't until I began to play at the many vintage events that I discovered there was this whole community of people who danced jive, lindy and swing and were enthused and dedicated to the 'vintage' sound, dance, era and lifestyle.'
The band comprises of seasoned musicians who also have played for a long list of other well-known artists, including the Drifters, The Four Tops, Mike Sanchez, The Glen Miller Orchestra, Laura B, The Drugstore Cowboys, Si Cranstoun, Dexter Shaw, West Weston, Ray Gelato, Jools Holland Orchestra, JD McPherson and The Bobbettes.
