Legendary Ray Mang plays the best disco, house and exclusive edits all night long.
Ray Mang is Laj is Raj Gupta. One of the premier disco producers since way back when and still clocking forwards in a future fashion with no sign of letting up. He landed his first 12” Number One in ’96 on Noid Recordings gaining widespread support in the clubs and on compilations. He has taken that wonky party sound and kept it moving on ever since. He also runs the label Mangled and has released across too many labels to mention. He is prolific with the quality control on high.
He launched his own label Mangled in ’98 with a slew of killer 12-inches. Two albums followed: ‘Mangled’ (Eskimo) and ‘Mangled Again’ on his own imprint, as well as singles on R&S, Smash Hit, Bear Funk and Barefoot Beats. Recent hits include ‘Bullet Proof’ on DFA featuring Lady Miss Kier, a disco-house reimagining of a P-funk classic; and the blissed-out Balearic gem ‘Look Into My Eyes’ which instantly became a firm favourite for many.
His many talents as a musician and producer have driven a wealth of collaborations: in bands Block 16 and Motif on seminal ’90s label Nuphonic; as Laj with the Idjut Boys on U-Star, or with Quakerman on their own Fiasco imprint; and with close musical acquaintances The Glimmers, Foolish Felix, Lee Tong and Nathan D’Troit. More recently Ray has teamed up with Bill Brewster to form Mang Dynasty whose track Crash The Box is out now and receiving rave reviews. In all his guises Ray Mang is one of the most prolific contributors to the UK disco/house canon.
As a remixer his phone never stops ringing. He’s notched up credits for Lassigue Bendthaus, Banda Black Rio, Gorillaz, Shirley Bassey, Grand National, Beck, Roxy Music / Bryan Ferry, Doves, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Freddie Mercury, Bloc Party, Munk, Rob Garza, Friendly Fires, Classixx, S-Express, Daniel Grau & Los Amigos Invisibles with Dimitri From Paris to name just a few.
As a globe trotting DJ he plays at festivals, clubs, bars, by pools, on boats, rooftops and beaches in some of the most beautiful locations around the world. His incendiary sets blend house, disco, boogie, cosmic, balearic, latin, afro, along with anything that takes his fancy and sneak previews of his own forthcoming monsters. As happy playing peak time Saturday night as he is providing the soundtrack to your sunset moment in paradise. Recent trips have taken him to Brazil, Colombia, USA, Bali, Dubai, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Croatia, Ibiza and all over Europe. He’s also a regular on the festival circuit with appearances at Love International, Standon Calling, Campo Sancho, Flamingo Pier Waiheke (NZ) and Mareh, Marisco & O/NDA in Brazil.

★ Location ★
We are located next to Hackney Wick station.
★ The Venue ★
There are two distinct spaces within HWK: “HWK Bar and Restaurant” and “The Lot”. HWK was originally a small cocktail and DJ bar that launched in Summer 2019 with an intimate interior courtyard that serves as an oasis in the industrial landscape of Hackney Wick.
As the bar itself was too small to comply to social distancing measures post lockdown, we initially focused on the interior courtyard and converted it into a restaurant and drinks area with seating. Professional sound was installed, providing drinks and diners with surround sound from the DJs in the bar. Now with restrictions lifted, we welcome guests in the bar and courtyard and have DJs every Friday and Saturday.
The Lot is the space next door. A small parking lot that we converted over Summer 2020 in to Hackney Wick’s best outdoor venue, which has hosted plenty of amazing DJs.
So far this year, we’ve seen the likes of Phonica Records’ residency, Secretsundaze, A Guy Called Gerald, Nick The Record, Scott Fraser, Jonny Aux (Paranoid London), Alex Arnout, Mr. Beatnick, Italoboyz, Chris Read, Sean Johnston, Scott Fraser, Rory Phillips, Grainger, Toby Tobias, Soft Rocks, Good Block, Kristy Harper, Lulu Levan, Danielle Moore (Crazy P), Alexander Nut, Nathan Gregory Wilkins (Cowboy Rhythmbox), Ray Mang, Pete Herbert, Donna Leake, Flora Yin-Wong, Laila Sakini, Louise Chen, Daisha, Faro, Adonis DJs, Wes Baggaley, Jaye Ward and many more grace the decks, as well as parties hosted by Queen’s Yard Summer Party, Body Movements, Athens of the North, InTo The Woods, Carmina, Cartulis, Eco Disco, Guava Jamz, Anomalous, Abandon Silence, Not An Animal, Jigsaw, We Are The Sunset, Vicious Creatures, Audio Farm Festival, Crossbreed and REVIVEHER. In addition, we’ve had a whole host of amazing, overlooked London DJs amongst these more well-known names.
Expect the best underground DJs from talented upcoming producers to legendary selectors, encompassing all manner of genres.
Half the space is covered by a roof with drop down heating, making the venue suitable all year round.
We’ve also installed a custom built, high fidelity sound system from East London Audio.
The Lot has plenty of seating across the venue, including private booths and gazebos, as well as a dance floor.
Both spaces have their own unique atmosphere and DJs. If you prefer intimacy and the music a little quieter, head to HWK Bar and Courtyard, where you can enjoy a fantastic selection of wines, cocktails and small bites,
alongside some seriously excellent music, selected by a varied roster of acclaimed record collectors and DJs.
And if you want al fresco vibes and a party atmosphere with DJs, head to The Lot!
