fabric: Ricardo Villalobos (6 Hour Set), Craig Richards & more on Saturday 20th July 2019
Ricardo Villalobos (6 Hour Set)
Craig Richards & Nicolas Lutz (6 Hour Set)
Voigtmann (All Night Long)
A clutch of our most highly prized family members make their return to Farringdon. In Room One, we prepare for another marathon session in the hands of minimal deity, Ricardo Villalobos. The Chilean native needs little introduction from us – having touched down in our space on a quarterly rotation since 2002, he is fully embedded in our history. Over the years Villalobos has been behind some of our most memorable moments, guiding Room One through mind-boggling sonic odysseys that fully showcase the depth of our Martin Audio Pro rig. A master in building suspense and dancefloor drama, Villalobos rarely stays within the confines of one style or genre, instead opting to draw from the wider pool of electronic music. Outside the club, recent years have seen him putting out killer minimal trips on labels like [a:rpia:r] and Pressure Trax, lending his signature percussive touch to shiny synth-pop records, and collaborating with Afrobeat visionary Tony Allen. That’s a big part of the appeal with Villalobos: he is constantly surprising us.
We also prepare to host one of our favourite DJ partnerships, Craig Richards and Nicolas Lutz. By now Richards is world-renowned for his ties with us: over the course of more than 700 visits since 1999, he’s been a huge influence in telling and shaping our story. In his record bag he usually packs a blend of mind-bending techno and electro, sublime deep house, wiggly breaks and leftfield disco, ingredients for a style of DJing that’s as versatile as it is original. Nicolas Lutz is equally gifted. Known best for his skills as a selector, the Uruguayan artist crafts sets that reference the full breadth of electronic music. His flair for uncovering forgotten gems has earned him a cult-like status among fans of stripped-back club music, while he’s also respected for running the excellent techno and electro label, My Own Jupiter. Having formed a close bond built upon their mutual love of digging for records, Richards and Lutz unite once again for an extended six hour back-to-back set, with Villalobos set to play another six hours to take us into the depths of Sunday morning.
Fresh off the back of joining our ranks officially, Voigtmann plays Room Three. The London-based artist has become one of our staples through his slick DJ sets, where he showcases a minimal-inclined side of techno and house drawing from electronic music’s little-known corners. He champions the same sound through his own productions, most of which can be found on his label Subsequent. Voigtmann plays his first all night long set in our space for a night that should celebrate electronic music at its very best.
