Volunteering for us is definitely not boring and there’s something for everyone whether you’re interested in helping people, becoming a fashion guru or looking at finding treasures in the public donations.
Each event will be unique to that shop but you’ll get the chance to tour the whole shop, meet the volunteer team, learn the different roles available, learn about Cancer Research and hopefully do some fun activities!
Do I need to book? No just drop in anytime during the above hours, we’ll be waiting for you. However if you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact us in advance.
What Our Cancer Research shops do:
Cancer Research UK has always been a volunteer-led organisation, right from our board of trustees to our wonderful shop volunteers. The money raised through our shops last year of over £80 million, is a testament to the hard work and talent of our shop teams, but we need to recognise the huge potential that still exists to grow our income. In particular, if we can attract more people into our shops and increase customer spend by maximising the appeal of our offer to local shoppers, we will be well on the way to achieving our targets. But we can only do this with the help of our talented and passionate volunteers.
What volunteers do in store:
Each shop is different and has its own amazing qualities, but requires the same volunteer duties. Each Shop Manager will try to rotate volunteers and give you a variety of duties these may include:
• Talking to customers and welcoming them to the shop
• Helping with sales on the till
• Helping customers and answering customer queries
• Tidy and cleaning the shop floor
• Removing and updating the shop floor stock
• Sorting through donations
• Steaming and tagging clothing
Whether you work 9 to 5, are a student, a shift worker or retired theirs opportunities for you to help us. We are flexible with when you can volunteer, most shops operate 7 days a week and some are open as late as 7pm. Volunteers give everything from half an hour to a few days a week.
