Spacestation w/ BareSkin, Last Magpie, Az&Tor + The Golden Boy on Saturday 20th April 2013

Introducing the April crew…

Of course, age is of no concern when it comes to music - it's the sounds that matter - but when you hear the unique palette of BareSkin you might be blown away by the fact that he’s just 18 years old.

His debut EP ‘Flow’ released on Losing Suki received wide spread critical acclaim – four tracks of synth heavy, garage-y tinged, UK sounding club weapons. So impressed with his debut, the next instalment from BareSkin was fast tracked to Hypercolour for his ‘Eyes’ EP. With a love of acid basslines, choppy, garage-lite vocals and complex rhythmical patterns, BareSkin’s sound will take you on a journey through time and space – just how we like it.

Last Magpie

As his name would suggest, Last Magpie picks up, gathers and masterfully combines musical gems from across the board to create and influence his finely tuned house and 2step hybrids. He aims to keep his style open and unspecific to any one genre under his Magpie moniker, drawing from elements of house, techno, dub and garage with a hint of old school jungle.

Last Magpie has chalked up a number of well-received releases for Hypercolour and its little sister imprint, Losing Suki. Without fail, each release has pushed both his and the label’s sound forward with an adept skill of crafting something new each time.

As a vastly experienced DJ, his style spans across an equally broad spectrum, expertly throwing together highlights from genres far and wide. A mix of house, techno and garage, new and old, keeps the vibes fresh and interesting. Don’t be surprised to find a throw-back of early Chicago House or Detroit Techno seamlessly sandwiched in-between more modern cuts with a distinctive sound, shaped by earlier influences. An open book, The Last Magpie.

Recently touted by BBC Introducing's as “Ones To Watch”, AZ&TOR are a producer and singer-songwriter duo hailing out of the thriving Bristol music scene.

Joining the dots between the UK underground’s current predilection for house and bass, their sets incorporate skippy garage and well swung two-step. So impressed by their production, house legend Kerri Chandler recently snapped up the pair for his newly minted MadTech Records. Their latest release “Resend” is a soulful gooey centred house missile. Clearly drawing on a plethora of influences from Hip Hop to Bass, from Soul to House – Az&Tor epitomize everything that is great about the current state of the UK underground electronic music scene.

Golden Boy

Dominic Harrods, aka The Golden Boy is a talented DJ and Producer from Birmingham. Bursting onto the Spacestation radar in January with the an incredible rework of Lauryn Hill’s “That Thing”. The Golden Boy is another exciting producer straddling the Parthenon between RnB, House and Bass. His latest offering “Won’t Do” delves in an old school house flavour but still sampling delicious RnB vocals that have become the staple diet of The Golden Boy.
