About

"You’re not working class. You’re Bulgarian. You weren’t even born in this country."

Inspired by writer Theo Hristov’s own experiences and informed by conversations with migrant creatives, Working Class Hero employs sketch comedy, physical theatre, and multimedia performance to confront the lack of migrant representation in the UK arts industry.

Set in present day London, the play follows two actors and best friends Posh Actor and Stephan. As one is beset by opportunity because he has the right background and accent and the other struggles to get a break, their friendship strains under the weight of typecasting, systemic bias and social expectations.

Directed by Blanka Szentandrássy and starring recent Mountview graduates Theo Hristov and Oscar Nicholson, Working Class Hero is a darkly comedic satire that offers an unflinching look into class, migrant identity, friendship and survival as an artist in a largely middle-class industry. In a climate that requires urgency, the play challenges us to reflect, resist and laugh in the faceof inequality, in both life and the arts.
